Makin’ Hay is currently installed in San Antonio, where it will remain until 2011. It is installed near Mission San Juan de Capistrano, located at Mission Parkway and Ashley Road. The installation was organized and sponsored by the Alturas Foundation in collaboration with Public Art San Antonio. The city of San Antonio is investing millions of dollars to make the San Antonio River a 15 mile linear park through the middle of the city. Makin’ Hay is the first installation of public art in the next phase of the river improvement project, known as the “Mission Reach” segment. The location was chosen specifically by Alturas Foundation to draw attention to the Missions’ important role in the founding of San Antonio. The installation, in this historic location, celebrates the agricultural heritage of the city.
