Laura Wilson
Overview
That Day: Laura Wilson, organized by the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Fort Worth, Texas, was exhibited from September 2015 through February 2016.
Laura Wilson examined a West defined by diverse communities outside the suburban middle-class. This exhibition of seventy-one photographs introduced worlds that are hard-bitten and fiercely independent. Framed equally by beauty and violence, the images reflect the artist’s challenge to today’s homogenized America.
Wilson has done four books. Her latest, Avedon at Work, documents one of the great photographers of the twentieth century, Richard Avedon. Wilson was Avedon’s assistant for six years and her photographs and journal entries show Avedon’s creative process, working methods, and range of subjects as he worked to complete his book, In the American West. Previously, Yale University Press published Hutterites of Montana. The Artist lives in Dallas, Texas.
