Public Art San Antonio: 2009-2013

Public Art San Antonio

Overview

Makin’ Hay  was installed in San Antonio, Texas from 2009 to 2013. The figures were initially installed installed south of the city, near Mission San Juan de Capistrano by the Alturas Foundation in collaboration with Public Art San Antonio. Makin’ Hay  was the first installation of public art in the final phase of the “Mission Reach” segment of the San Antonio river improvement project.   Makin’ Hay  was also installed in Hardberger Park, a new 311 acre public park on the north side of San Antonio.   Hardberger Park was a particularly appropriate location for Makin’ Hay’, since the acquisition by the city preserved this last remaining parcel of undeveloped farm land in the area, which had been a working dairy farm for over one hundred years.  The installations in these two historic locations celebrated the agricultural heritage of San Antonio, and the contemporary reuse of land for public space.
