Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University

Overview

Makin’ Hay  was installed on the Stanford University campus from 2006 to 2009 in collaboration with the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University.  Stanford University opened its doors to students in 1891 on Leland Stanford’s 8,000 acre working farm.  Even today, students and faculty still fondly refer to their university as “The Farm.”   Makin’ Hay  honored the university’s agricultural roots and intrigued Cantor Arts Center art historians, who noted the visual references to The Gleaners, a 19th century painting by French artist Francois Millet.
